Funding is available to help you pay for college expenses, and now financial help is just a click away. Watch for application deadlines for financial aid. When applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or submitting a Renewal Application, you must have your application in before March 1st each year for the following academic year. Therefore, FAFSAs should be mailed to the school in which you are enrolled as soon after January 1st as possible. Applications can take weeks to be processed. It's important to get them in on time and have them filled out correctly. For more information concerning FAFSAs, click on http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Money from federal, state, college, and private programs come in the form of grants, loans, scholarships or college work-study programs. About two-thirds of students attending Minnesota State Colleges and Universities receive financial aid. Grants are awarded to you by the state and federal governments based on criteria you must meet. Scholarships are awarded for academic and other achievements (music, athletics, etc.), financial need, you or your family’s membership in a group, or your special interests or talent. There are many opportunities for this type of funding. Information on financial aid, student loans and college work-study programs is available to you from each Minnesota State College and University.
